After studying Computer Science in Buenos Aires, I found my true passion in multicultural communications and group dynamics while on a two-year work-study program that took me around Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America. In the U.S., I have done qualitative research work for clients such as Target, Red Lobster, Walmart, and the State of Minnesota.
Since 1987, I have written on a variety of topics and interviewed Latino leaders such as Jorge Ramos, Celia Cruz, Edward James Olmos, Fabian Bielinsky, Marc Anthony, Jaime Escalante, Eddie Palmieri, La India, Ray Suarez, and others.
I founded and served as Editor-in-Chief of La Voz de La Plaza (a national Verizon publication) and La Voz Latina (a Twin Cities newspaper), and served on the Editorial Advisory Boards of MARQ magazine (Star Tribune) and La Prensa de MN.
Besides current board service, my governance experience includes serving as founding board member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of MN. Also, I had the privilege of serving on the boards of the Minnesota Life College, the Push Institute, and La Oportunidad.
My creative and consulting work spans disciplines such as broadcast, advertising, public relations, print, direct marketing, packaging, web/online and social networks, qualitative research, corporate training, corporate communications, and industrial audio/video, in industries as varied as health care, retail, automotive, disability, packaged foods, hospitality, health care, and psychological and HR assessments.
I enjoy presenting on multicultural communications topics. In Santiago, Chile, I addressed the challenges of the Multicultural Contextualization of Assessment Tools at the Interamerican Congress of Psychology.
I taught as adjunct faculty in the Graduate School of Business of the University of St. Thomas (Masters of International Management program) and at Century College. I enjoy presenting regularly on cultural competence, immigration, and international and Hispanic marketing communications.
I'm fluent in English and Spanish, have conversational skills in Portuguese and French, and studied a little Finnish and Hebrew. I can fake Italian, and learn fairly quickly key phrases in just about any world language, something that has opened many doors around the world. My accent coaching and tutoring services have helped many Spanish-speakers (both native and non-native) communicate more fluidly in professional and informal settings.
I consider myself an avid traveler, and enjoy serving as a travel companion, guide and planner for individuals, couples and small groups visiting destinations in Europe and Latin America. When I travel, I "go local" as much as possible. I like what travel does to the soul, how it changes us and connects us with our own and all humanity. I love experiencing places as a temporary local.
I've lived and worked in Argentina, Brazil, Spain, the UK and the USA. Today I spend my time between Minnesota and Oregon. My passions include writing, photography, spirituality, travel, dancing, nature, the arts, acting, wines, volunteerism, music, film, and world cultures and languages.
